Yesterday we lost another piece of my childhood, with the passing of the amazing Gene Wilder. Wilder acted, directed and wrote in many films and television series during the ’70’s, ’80’s and into the ’90’s. Some his much loved films became cult classics e.g. The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and even Willy Wonka, which was thought to be “too cruel a moral” so parents at first did not embrace it as a family movie! This reaction to Wonka, seems incredible to me, as I always loved the colour, the characters and the music.
The song I have chosen to share is called Pure Imagination from the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which came out in theatres in 1971, when I was 12 years old. The movie had many memorable moments and songs to go with them but this sweet tune, with wonderfully truthful lyrics, interpreted so beautifully by Wilder, is the stand out for me.
Enjoy ……. Pure Imagination by Gene Wilder – truly music from my heart!
